New Private Pilot: James Welch

There is nothing like the feeling of passing a Checkride!

HUGE Congratulations to James Welch, Alameda Aero Club’s newest Private Pilot! James called me up a little over a month ago to see if I could get him through his Checkride on the fast track. He leaves for Army basic training on October 8. I knew it would be tight but we got’er done! Also a big shout out to DPE Ken Cobb in Columbia. He gives a very thorough Checkride, and is always a pleasure to work with!

First Solo: Matthew Fox

Congratulations Matthew Fox on your initial solo this morning at Tracy. It was a proud moment to jump out of the airplane and watch you fly the pattern. The hard work is paying off.

Membership meeting, Sunday October 7th

Members,

Our annual membership meeting will be held Sunday, October 7th, from 12pm – 4pm. We will be holding elections for your 2018-2019 Board of Directors. This is your opportunity to vote for the next year’s board. Also, if you are willing to serve, please let one of your current board members know.

This is a great time to hear about the status of the club from your BOD, as well as offer any suggestions, or questions for your BOD.

This is during the airshow for Fleet Week, so we’ll have a prime position for viewing the takeoff and landings of the Blue Angels, and I believe Team Oracle, as well.

BBQ will be provided, and if you wish to come early at 11 and help with set up, please contact Ken or Andrew. Potluck donations are always welcome.

  • 2:00pm Jim Hager will speak about his flight to KOSH this year with Will. Will’s son, Alex, will also be at the membership meeting. There is a stack of aviation books from Will that will be there. Please feel free to take any of these books home with you!
  • 2:30pm BOD officers club status update
  • 3:00pm Vote for new BOD
  • 3:05Q&A. Pose any flying question for your Chief Pilot/MX officer/CFIs

I look forward to seeing all of you there, and swapping some flying stories! Please feel free to bring family members, friends, and aviation enthusiasts!

New Instrument Pilot: Damian Cowell

Congratulations to Alameda Aero Club’s newest Instrument Pilot, Damian Cowell!! This has a project that Damian and I have been working on all summer, and after a delay last week due to the 100 inspection, DPE Ashley Snider was able to get Damian in for his Checkride up at Lincoln today! It was hot and bumpy, but Damian prevailed and is now certified by the FAA to endanger the general public in bad weather as well as good!
